On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, Hon. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, paid a working visit to the South Tongu District Assembly. During his visit, he handed over 100 water pumping machines to the 18 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and selected cooperative farmer groups in the region.
The water pumping machines, received from the Ministry of Agriculture, are part of the Feed Ghana Project and the Volta Lake Economic Corridor Project. These initiatives aim to expand irrigation farming in the region. Hon. Gunu emphasized the importance of the machines and outlined a mechanism to ensure their effective operation, maintenance, and management.
The machines were distributed as follows:
– 5 machines each to districts along the Volta Lake (South, Central, and North Tongu; Kpando, North Dayi, South Dayi, and Afadjato South)
– 4 machines each to the other 11 districts
– 6 machines to the Regional Agriculture Directorate
– 15 machines to youth groups engaged in farming across the region
Hon. Gunu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure in the Volta Region to boost trade and livelihoods. He also highlighted ongoing initiatives, such as the National Apprenticeship Programme and the National Youth Employment Initiative, which aim to empower young people and strengthen local economies.
The Regional Minister commended farmers and partners for their tireless contributions to food security and agricultural transformation in the Volta Region.
