THE FIRST ORDINARY MEETING OF THE FIRST SESSION OF THE NINTH ASSEMBLY OF THE SOUTH TONGU DISTRICT ASSEMBLY.

The Presiding Member, Hon Victoria Dzeklo declared the meeting opened with a prayer by Hon. Edmond Fingero Dickah at exactly 10:54am.

The Presiding Member welcomed the Assembly members for the continuation of the adjourned General Assembly meeting held on Tuesday 14th May 2024. She reminded all Assembly Members on the importance of observing the principles of decorum and time management during Assembly meetings. She told the members that their responsibility to ensure that discussions are productive and efficient. Therefore, prolonging meetings will not only disrupt our schedules but will also incur significant financial implications for the Assembly.

The Presiding Member mentioned that the District Assembly is having challenges with its performance of Internal Generated Funds (IGF) revenue but assured members that Management will work diligently to resolve the issue.

She also stated that she recently participated in a workshop on National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) at HO. The workshop highlighted critical roles that all stakeholders should play in fighting corruption at various levels. It emphatically stated that the fight against corruption is a shared responsibility.

 It is imperative that we, as Assembly Members, uphold the highest ethical standards and resist any temptation to abuse our office/powers or authority for personal gain. 

She concluded by urging all stakeholders, especially Assembly Members to remain committed to the principles of transparency, accountability, and integrity to work together to build a prosperous South Tongu District that benefits all its citizens.  

The DCD informed members that Management must educate and sensitize the motor riders before the stickers would be issue.  And again, Management together with NCCE has stated the education and some of the motor riders have form an association to and therefore by next week 27th June 2024 the Assembly would start the issuance of motor stickers

The Head of Works mentioned that the Assembly has cleared some of the hawkers and shop owners from selling along the pavement and on the major road and operation is on-going.

The general house agreed that the District Chief Executive should contact Zikpuitor of Fievie Traditional Council on the four (4) acres of land that the council has agreed to release to the Assembly for the construction of the temporary shed at Yorkutikpo.

Madam Irene Dzato a representative from the Environmental Health Unit mentioned that Hon. Assembly members have embraced and observing the clean-up exercise in their respective electoral areas with the assistance of Environmental Health staff. 

The DCD informed Honourable Assembly Members that management stated the process but along the line, the Regional Controller halted the process because another directive came to reverse the first directive and therefore Assembly was askedto use of the old bank account for the property rate collection.

Hon. Francis Quashie Agbedeke mentioned that his electoral area (Hlevi Toklokpo) has been eroded by foreigners from Nigerians and Togolese who are scammers and poses security threat in his area.  He mentioned there was shooting incident at his area too.  The DCE mentioned that there was shooting incident at Yorve where a rice framer Mr. Peter Sina was shot and killed. DCE told members that the District Police Command have arrested some suspect regarding the shooting at rice farm and assured members that the law would punish the culprit.

Hon. Paul Fiador therefore moved a motion that in the next sitting the Regional Zoomlion officer should be invited to brief the general house on sanitation issues in the district and was seconded by Hon. Benjamin Amekudzi.

The DCD mentioned that the Assembly had submitted the proposal to the Regional Minister,and he has to book appointment with the President in order to submit the document to him.  The DCE also assured members that he has engaged the Minister on it and has assured him that our request is receiving attention.

Finally, the Presiding Member Hon. Victoria Dzeklo thanked assembly members for their constructive contributions and active participation throughout the meeting. She appealed to Management to organize a training workshop to orient newly Hon. Assembly Members before the next sitting.  She further entreated Management to ensure that all decisions reached were put to action for the development of the district.

Hon. Peter Agbanyo moved for the adjournment of the meeting and was seconded by Hon. Stephen Aho.
