The South Tongu District Assembly held the First Ordinary Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Assembly on Tuesday, 30th October, 2024 at the District Assembly hall, Sogakope. The Presiding Member, Hon. Victoria Dzeklo, declared the meeting open at exactly 10:49 am, followed by an opening prayer by Hon. Leonard Sikanu.
The Presiding member welcomed members, acknowledging the challenges faced by the Assembly in the past year and expressed gratitude for God’s faithfulness and National Democratic Party’s(NDC) victory on the 7th December, 2024 general elections.
The District Co-ordinating Director, Mr. Setsoafia Kpenu, presented the Executive Committee’s report, which highlighted a proposal by the Royal Shekinah City Hotel to construct a speed hump on the Sogakope-Aflao highway.
After discussion, the Assembly recommended that the Ghana Highways Authority fix the speed humps and make them accessible, suggesting a change in reflectors from white to blue background for better visibility.
The Assembly also discussed the District Road Improvements Program (DRIP), launched on July 31, 2024, by His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo. The program aimed to improve road maintenance and construction in the district by providing state-of-the-art equipment and technical training. The District Co-ordinating Director assured the House of his commitment to implement the program’s recommendations.
In a heartfelt farewell address, Hon. Wisdom Mensah Kwabla Woyome, former Member of Parliament, thanked the Assembly for their support during his 16-year tenure. He acknowledged key individuals who assisted him and highlighted his achievements, including extending electricity and water supply to various communities. Hon. Woyome also requested the Assembly to compensate landowners who gave out their land for the housing project for flood victims.
The Assembly approved the Dusornu Crema bye-laws to be gazetted, moved by Hon. Johnson Amedzro and seconded by Hon. Benjamin Amekudzi.
The Presiding Member thanked Assembly members for their support and contributions, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
The meeting ended at exactly 5:42 pm with a closing prayer by Hon. Issah Musah, after Hon. Alice Nartey moved a motion for adjournment, seconded by Hon. Felicia Glah.
