The 40th National Farmers’ Day Celebration was held at Hlotorto in the South Tongu District, which was held on 8th of November, 2024. The celebration was graced by the District Chief Executive of South Tongu District (DCE), Hon. Lynford Kwesi Tetteh, The Member of Parliament (MP), Hon.Wisdom Kobena Woyome, District Coordinating Director Mr. Setsoafia Kpenu and other dignitaries and high officials within the district.
Various speeches were given by the DCE, MP, the Chairman and the District Agric Officer, Madam Shine Akakpo which laid emphasis on encouraging the youth to get involved in agricultural activities for better employment opportunities.
The Hon. District Chief Executive delivered a speech at the Farmers Day celebration on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo. He expressed his heart felt gratitude to God and all farmers for such a great event.
Madam Shine Akakpo, the District Director of Agriculture, delivered a keynote speech which highlighted the agricultural achievements and challenges within the South Tongu District.
Madam Akakpo emphasized the importance of supporting farmers, particularly in the face of climate change, soil degradation, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss. She recommended strategies such as agroecology, conservation agriculture, sustainable water management, and climate-smart agriculture to build resilience in agricultural practices.
Madam Akakpo congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to continue their excellent work.
Madam Akakpo expressed gratitude to the Farmers’ Day Celebration Planning Committee, the staff of the Assembly, Togbuiwo Mamaawo, and the people of Hlotorto for their support and participation for a successful famer’s day event.
She congratulated all farmers who received prizes and praised them for being successful after a rigorous vetting and inspection process.
She urged all Ghanaians to be law abiding during the upcoming 2024 election to promote peace and unity within the environment.
