The District Chief Executive for South Tongu District Honourable Emmanuel Louis Agama has commissioned the first Covid-19 treatment centre in Sogakope.
According to the DCE, a Highly Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) nurses quarters project which was started by former President John Agyekum Kufour in 2004 at the Sogakope District Hospital and abandoned by the previous governments has been completed to be used as Covid-19 treatment centre within the District.
At a short ceremony to officially hand over the project to the South Tongu District Health Directorate, Hon. Emmanuel Louis Agama noted that, the abandoned bungalow for nurses at the Sogakope District Hospital has been converted into a COVID-19 treatment centre following a proposal from the Hospital management and the District Health Directorate.
Mr. Agama disclosed that, the decision to convert the abandoned HIPC nurses quarters project to a Coronavirus pandemic treatment centre was a call by the hospital administration to help curb and properly manage the covid-19 situation in the District.
The District Chief Executive also added that, the completed facility can accommodate a total of sixteen (16) Coronavirus patients.
