The Department of Agriculture, South Tongu District, is thrilled to share these initiatives that are changing lives. Through partnerships with key development organisations, we’re making progress in boosting livelihoods, growing agribusiness, and increasing financial access for young people, women, and vulnerable groups
Financial Inclusion for the Last Mile Actors (FILMA) Project. The FILMA project, funded by the Mastercard Foundation, is a four-year initiative aimed at empowering youth (18-35 years) through financial inclusion and enterprise development. Key achievements include:
– Poultry Support: 6 farmers received 3,600 broiler birds, boosting poultry production and income generation.
– VSLA Loan Support: 60 Village Savings and Loans Associations accessed soft loans, supporting business expansion and financial stability.
– Skills Development: 900 young women are being enrolled in skills training in pastry production, yoghurt processing, soap making, and soybean product processing.
Sabon Sake Poultry Value Chain Project. Sabon Sake, in collaboration with the World University of Canada and Mastercard Foundation, is implementing a four-year poultry value chain project targeting youth empowerment. Key highlights include:
– First Cohort (2025): 78 participants (69 females, 9 males, 4 persons with disability) trained, with 6 already gainfully employed.
– Second Cohort: 61 participants trained, enhancing skills in poultry production and increasing employment opportunities.
Fruit Master Limited – Activate Project: Fruit Master Limited is supporting youth in vegetable production, training 14 young women in practical techniques. This initiative is improving technical skills and increasing self-employment opportunities.

These interventions have contributed to:
– Increased youth participation in agriculture and agribusiness
– Improved access to financial services through VSLAs
– Enhanced skills development and employability
– Empowerment of women and vulnerable groups
– Improved household incomes and food security
The partnership between the Department of Agriculture and its partners has significantly contributed to youth empowerment and agricultural development in the South Tongu District.
