DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE COLLABORATES WITH MTTD TO ENGAGE OKADA RIDERS ON SAFETY AND REGULATIONS.

The District Chief Executive for South Tongu, Hon. Victoria Dzeklo, in collaboration with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) officers, held a productive meeting with Okada riders in the district. The meeting aimed to discuss crucial issues regarding the safety and operation of Okada riders, with a focus on enhancing road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.

During the meeting, the DCE and MTTD officers informed the riders about the government’s revised licensing framework for motorcycle and tricycle operators. Key highlights of the new framework include:

– Enhanced authority for the Ghana Police Service to enforce road traffic laws, ensuring stricter compliance and improved road safety.

– Creation of unions for motorcycle and tricycle riders to work closely with the police, promoting order and accountability.

– Establishment of a national database to document all motorcycles and tricycles operating in the country.

Hon. Victoria Dzeklo expressed gratitude to the riders for their participation and urged them to always adhere to road traffic laws. The meeting was deemed a success, marking an important step towards improving road safety and promoting responsible riding practices in the district.

This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety and regulating the Okada industry, ultimately protecting the lives of riders and their passengers.
