The South Tongu District Assembly has organized community needs assessment for the preparation of the 2022-2025 District Medium Term Development Plan. The needs assessment is aimed at identifying and prioritizing the needs of the communities within the Area Council. The people of Hawui, Adidokpo, Kedzi and Aveta all under Gamenue in the South Tongu district need road and dredging of the Volta river at the estuary. The estuary is blocked and not allowing for free flow of water from the Anlo-land into the sea. This resulted in the flooding of the area. The paths to these communities are all flooded and the people are really suffering in going about their daily activities.

School children cannot to go to school at Gamenu, pregnant women and the elderly cannot access the Gamenu CHPs compound for basic health. Health workers cannot go for outreach in these communities. Socioeconomic life of the people have also been disrupted. Fisherfolks are no longer catching fishes and crabs as expected. Traders also finds it difficult to ply their trade as carrying of their wares through the mud to join taxies at Gamanu to go to Dabala market is becoming a challenge for them.

Among the villages, Hawui is strategically located for economic benefit for the district. It is the only South Tongue District village closer to the Estuary. The village provides rich system for oceanic and riverain eco-tourism. Tourist can bird watch, tour the numerous tributaries to observed aquatic lives, mangrove mammals and reptiles. The village also have the potential to support aquaculture, salt and ceramic industries.

Hawui serves as the transit route for over 20 villages (among which are Agorta, Kportey, Amedorme, Larve, Galotse, Dzigbove, Akpikpor, Azikpo, Akalove, Agbletorkor, Torplakpor, Kedzi, Aveta, Gamanu, and others) who goes to Anyarnue market every Wednesday to ply their trade. The socioeconomic and health circumstance of the people and those of Hawui-Adidokpo in particular are under serious threat if the road is not attended to. The road is just about 10KM long from from Akalove-Agbletorkor-Gamanue-Hawui to Adidokpo.

I am on behalf of the chiefs, elders and people in these areas to appeal to the District Assembly, the Government and relevant agencies to come to the aid of the people.

    Thanks
