CELEBRATING UNITY AND PROGRESS 67TH INDEPENDENCE DAY IN SOUTH TONGU DISTRICT.

On March 6th, 2024, South Tongu District commemorated Ghana’s 67th Independence Day. Marking another milestone in the nation’s journey towards sovereignty, unity, and progress under the democratic process. This significant occasion provided an opportunity for the residence of South Tongu District to come together and honor Ghana’s journey with pride and reflect on the achievements made since gaining independence in 1957.

This year’s celebration took place at the Sogakope Senior High School park. It signifies the vital role our fore-fathers played from colonial rule in 1957 under the leadership of Kwame Nkrumah.

This year’s celebration was themed: “Our Democracy Our Pride”.

The program began around 7:00am with the arrival of students from various schools in the District like St. Catherine Senior High School, Comboni Technical School, Sogakope Senior High School, Arey Smart Brain Academy, Harmony School, Cuniberto Memorial, Sogasco JHS B, Sogasco Model Junior High School. In all 30 schools participated including a civil society organization participated in the program.

Some of the Dignitaries present were the Member of Parliament for South Tongu District, District Chief Executive, District Coordinating Director, The Presiding Member, District Police Commander, District Fire Service commander, District Immigration sector Commander, District Ambulance Commander, District Health Director, District Director of Education, Ghana Police Services, Immigration, Fire Service, District Presiding Member, Assembly members, chiefs, Staffs.

The Brass Band Displayed a vibrant musical interlude with the parade of various Cadet groups and various Schools. The District Chief Executive and other Guests for the kick start of the program.

The program began with the pouring of libation from a traditional leader and was proceeded with Christian and Muslim Prayers. The parade was inspected by the District Chief Executive, Police Commander, and District Director of Education.

Honorable Member of Parliament gave a short address to the gathering.

The District Chief Executive delivered a comprehensive address highlighting on Ghana’s upcoming general election and outlined some visions for the future for the District.

Schools, organization, and various Cadet corps marched past, showcasing their discipline and teamwork, and paying attributes to the sacrificed of our Great Leaders who fought a good fight to gain independence.

The result of the march pass was compiled and announced, recognizing the outstanding performances and dedication of various participants. Certificates were presented by the District Education Director, Honorable Presiding member and the District Coordinating Director presented to all participating schools. Prizes were also presented to the winning schools and cadets, acknowledging their excellence and commitment to the celebration.

The various schools and prizes won were:

Primary Category

Arey Smart Brain Academy Won the 3rd position and the prize was presented by the District Ambulance Commander

Cuniberto Memorial RC primary won the 2nd position, and the prize was presented by Sogakope Senior high School Headmaster.

And the overall winner for the Primary Category was Harmony Primary school and   the prize was presented by District Fire Service Commander.

 

At the Junior High School Category

Sogakope PCG Junior high school won the 3rd position, and the presentation was done by Mr. Lukutor Maxwell.

Sogakope Comboni JHS won the second position, and it was presented by District Health Director.

The overall winner for Junior high School Category went to Haw Islamic school and their prize was presented by the District Education Director.

Senior High School Category

Comboni Technical Institute won the 3rd position, and their prize was presented by the representative of the immigration sector commander.

St. Catherine Senior High School won the 2nd position, and the presentation was done by St. Catherine Senior high Headmistress.

The overall winner for Senior High category went to Sogakope Senior High School and their award was presented by Honorable Member of Parliament for the South Tongu Constituency

For Cadet Category:

St. Catherine Senior High Cadet won the 3rd Position, and their prize was presented by the District Police Commander.
