CLEAN-UP EXERCISE AT SOGAKOPE STADIUM.

On Thursday, 30th April 2026, the South Tongu District Assembly (STDA) organised a clean-up exercise at the Sogakope Stadium and its surrounding areas. The exercise formed part of preparations towards the inauguration ceremony for the commencement of the construction of the Sogakope Stadium, as well as in readiness for the expected arrival of the President of the Republic.

The exercise was aimed at improving environmental sanitation, enhancing the appearance of the project site, and ensuring a clean and welcoming environment for the upcoming ceremony.

During the exercise, several sanitation activities were carried out within and around the stadium premises. These included:

  1. Clearing of weeds and overgrown vegetation on the stadium land.
  2. Desilting of drains to improve the free flow of water and prevent choked gutters.
  3. Sweeping of streets and surrounding areas.
  4. Collection and disposal of refuse generated within the area.

The exercise significantly improved the environmental condition and appearance of the stadium surroundings.

The clean-up exercise recorded the active participation of key stakeholders and officials within the district. Notably, the Hon. Member of Parliament for South Tongu Constituency, Maxwell Lukutor, and the Hon. District Chief Executive, Victoria Dzeklo, actively took part in the exercise, demonstrating their commitment towards environmental sanitation and the successful organization of the upcoming inauguration ceremony.

Additionally, some Assembly Members from various electoral areas were present and participated in the exercise.

The exercise also witnessed the passive attendance of some community members, staff of the District Assembly, and personnel from the South Tongu Health Directorate.

The clean-up exercise was successfully carried out and achieved its intended objective of preparing the Sogakope Stadium environment ahead of the inauguration ceremony and the anticipated visit of the President of the Republic. The active involvement of district authorities and stakeholders contributed greatly to the success of the exercise.

It is recommended that similar exercises be organized periodically to maintain environmental cleanliness and promote public health within the district.
