NATIONAL ORIENTATION PROGRAM FOR NEW ASSEMBLY MEMBERS AND GOVERNMENT APPOINTEE MEETING

The training started exactly at 10:00 am with an opening prayer by Hon. Selasi Nyamesekpor.

The Presiding Member and the District Chief Executive gave their remarks for a successful program.

Mr. Jonathan Azusu, a lecturer from the Institute of Local Government Studies was the moderator for the program. After a brief introduction, Mr. Azasu mentioned that there are three (3) key documents that each Assembly members must have.

These documents were Local Governance Act 2016, Local Governance Act 936 and Local Governance Amendment Act 942.

Mr. Azusu advised the Assembly members to be more proactive and committed to work.

Some key notes observed during the orientation were.

  1. Votes of a Presiding Member should not be less than two –thirds of the number of Assembly members.
  2. Ordinary meetings of committee must be held at least three (3) times a year and it should be reasonably spread.

iii. All invitation letters of Assembly meetings must be signed by the Presiding Member

  1. One major function of an Assembly member is effective revenue mobilization.

 

The first day of the program ended successfully at 5:00 pm with a closing prayer by Hon. Solomon Dzinyator.

Day 2 of the Orientation program started exactly at 9:30 am with an opening prayer by Hon. Prosper Dzimado.

For the second day, Dr. Charity Dzrado assisted Mr. Azasu for the moderation. She lectured on topics such as Effective Leadership, Revenue Mobilization, Duty of Assembly Members and this made the session interactive and educative.

To conclude the program, the District Co-ordinating Director, Mr. Setsoafia Kpenu gave a closing remark and vote of thanks.

The session finally ended exactly at 4:45 pm with a closing prayer by Madam Esther Shelly Tsidi.
