INTERNATIONAL WORKERS DAY(MAY DAY) MAY DAY CELEBRATION IN SOUTH TONGU DISTRICT.

As Ghana joins the world in celebrating International Workers’ Day on 1st May 2025, the South Tongu District Assembly came alive with vibrant festivities. The theme for the celebration was “Resetting Pay and Working Conditions in Ghana: The Role of Stakeholders”.

The national May Day celebrations took place at the Independence Square; Accra and the Volta Regional celebrations was held at St. Francis College of Education (FRANCO) Hohoe.

 The South Tongu District organized its celebration at the Sogakope Senior High School (Sogasco), Sogakope. The May Day celebrations kicked off with a float from the roundabout near Agave Rural Bank to Sogakope Senior High School (Sogasco).

Workers from the North Tongu District Assembly, South Tongu District Assembly, Iribov Ghana Limited, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Fire Service, Sogakope District Hospital and Ghana Education Service gathered for the celebration and participated in a range of fun games and activities. These included football, musical chairs, sack races, lime and spoon races, ludo, oware, card games, table tennis, basketball and volleyball.

The highlight of the event was the inter organization competition, where teams from the North Tongu District Assembly, South Tongu District Assembly, Iribov Ghana Limited, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Fire Service, Sogakope District Hospital and Ghana Education Service fiercely competed against each other in a variety of fun games and activities.

The celebration however came to an abrupt end as heavy rainfall interrupted the festivities, forcing participants to seek shelter and bringing the games to a close. Despite the sudden conclusion, the event was a resounding success in showcasing appreciation for the district’s hardworking men and women in the district.
