The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development Office, South Tongu District, Sogakope, recently used the LEAP payment platform to educate the beneficiaries on 7th October 2024 at the department’s premises. During the session, three hundred beneficiaries benefited from the education, which focused on key topics including the following

  4. Domestic violence.

This session was led by Mr. Joel Elorm Quarcoo, the Acting Head of Department, who educated the beneficiaries on using the LEAP funds wisely by prioritizing healthy eating, personal upkeep, payment of children’s school fees, and investing in small businesses like farming and animal rearing to generate profit while avoiding non-essential spending like alcohol and funeral clothes.

Mr. Quarcoo also stressed on parental responsibilities, urging parents to give maximum attention to their children and perform their parental roles diligently ensuring their children are enrolled in schools, providing their learning materials for their studies, and having affection for their children. He also encouraged the beneficiaries to be each other’s keepers, emphasizing the roles of the entire community toward raising responsible children for better future generations for the district and country at large.

Finally, Mr. Quarcoo admonished the beneficiaries against predominant child trafficking and domestic violence such as involving their children in hard labor and excessive physical abuse which are prohibited by the laws protecting the rights of children in the district and the country.
