DONATIONS TO FLOOD VICTIMS LIVING WITH DISABILITIES

As we are all aware, the district experienced a devastating disaster in terms of flooding because of spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong dams that affected some communities in the district which caused the livelihood of persons with disabilities.

Miss Mariam Quayson Odonkor (Mama Yewulor IV), the queen mother of Volo Traditional Area, and the former District Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Mawuko Eworyi through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development Office, Sogakope, recently donated essential equipment and food items to Persons with Disabilities affected by the floods in tSouth Tongu District. The donation, which took place on May 5, 2024, supported about two hundred flood victims living with disabilities. The items donated include 50 wheelchairs, 20 crutches, 20 white canes, 5 kilograms of rice, 1 liter of cooking oil, bags and bottles of water as well as biscuits and soft drinks.

During the presentation, Mama Yewulor IV acknowledged the vulnerabilities of the Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs), particularly considering the recent floods that have caused severe damage to their living conditions. The donation was aimed at providing support and alleviating the problems caused by the flood, thus presenting these items to support and help alleviate the problems caused by the flood.
