Following the severe downpour on June 29 that resulted in structural failures and the displacement of several households across the South Tongu District, a coordinated disaster relief exercise was carried out to deliver immediate shelter to affected residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through a joint diplomatic effort between the District Chief Executive, Hon. Victoria Dzeklo, and the Member of Parliament, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, the Ghana Red Cross Society, supported by the Swiss Red Cross, provided 20 emergency shelter repair and tent kits to bolster local recovery operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DCE led the distribution in collaboration with the district’s National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) team and key administrative heads of the District Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Priority allocation was given to the hardest-hit communities where residents had lost their homes and were temporarily relying on alternative shelter arrangements. Under the distribution strategy, the Adutor Electoral Area received 10 shelter kits to address its significant displacement count, while the Gonu-Agbokofe and Dzebetato Electoral Areas each received two kits to assist their affected households.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designed for durability and practical deployment, each tent unit can comfortably accommodate up to six individuals and maintain structural integrity for at least six months, extending well beyond that timeline if properly maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

District authorities emphasized that while these shelter kits serve as an essential stopgap to restore stability and security for victims, broader relief efforts and stakeholder engagements are actively continuing to secure comprehensive assistance for all impacted communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
