\u00a08th May 2026 was declared a district-wide clean-up exercise. The sun was just climbing over South Tongu on Friday when people started gathering with brooms, gloves, and black poly bags in hand. By 6:30 am, the South Tongu District-wide Clean Up Exercise was underway, and it felt less like a chore and more like a community reunion. From Sogakope South, Central and North, to Dabala, Larve, Adutor, Sokpoe-Tefle, and every electoral area in between, chiefs, assembly members, some assembly staff, youth groups, School children, and residents stepped out together. The roadsides that had been collecting plastic and debris for weeks were suddenly busy with laughter, chatter, and the sound of sweeping. market women working side by side with young volunteers, clearing gutters and collecting rubbish near the lorry park. Assembly members didn\u2019t just supervise – they rolled up their sleeves and joined in. Even the chiefs were out early, leading their communities with brooms in hand. By 10 am, the district looked different. Drains were clearer, open spaces looked neater, and people stood back to admire the work, wiping sweat and sharing bottles of water. It wasn\u2019t perfect, but it was real progress made together. What stood out wasn\u2019t just the clean streets, but the conversations that happened while cleaning them. Neighbours who hadn\u2019t spoken in months reconnected. Young people said they felt proud to help keep their hometown clean. The message from the day was simple: South Tongu is cleaner when we all take responsibility. The exercise helped improve the appearance of the area and raised awareness of the importance of maintaining a clean environment. If 8th May is anything to go by, the district is ready to keep showing up for each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
