In a bold move aligned with the national directive on sanitation, the South Tongu District Assembly organized a district-wide clean-up exercise on Friday, November 7, 2025. Though the nationwide observance typically falls on the first Saturday of each month, the Assembly opted for Friday to maximize participation particularly from schools in session and residents less likely to be engaged in weekend travel or social events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite persistent rainfall, the exercise was a resounding success, with stakeholders from across the district showing up in full force. Environmental Health Officers, supported by staff from various departments of the District Assembly, worked tirelessly in the rain to ensure compliance, closing shops and mobilizing residents for action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security and emergency services played a pivotal role. The Ghana Police Service maintained order and ensured peaceful conduct, while the Ghana National Fire Service deployed personnel and a fire tender to wash streets and assist in desilting drains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deployment of DRIP machines as well as Zoomlion vehicles and tools well significantly enhanced the efficiency of the exercise, making the collection of accumulated waste swift and hassle-free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was graced by notable dignitaries including Hon. Maxwell Lukutor (Member of Parliament), District Chief Executive Hon.Victoria Dzeklo, and District Environmental Health Officer Mr. Samuel K. Glago. They addressed the community, emphasizing the importance of environmental cleanliness and the shared responsibility of sanitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key focus areas included the Sogakope station, Dabala market and lorry station, Sogakope main market, bread market, and surrounding drains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Able-bodied men from local keep-fit clubs, drivers from GPRTU and PROTOA, and Okada riders tackled the heavy lifting of drain desilting, while hawker women swept streets and public spaces with determination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rain did little to dampen spirits. Institutions like the Nutekpor Naval Command, schools, Dabala community members, and others conducted parallel clean-up activities in their own spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assembly members and traditional leaders stood shoulder-to-shoulder with residents, braving the weather to support the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local radio stations and Community Information Centre (CICs) played a crucial role in sensitizing the public ahead of the exercise, ensuring widespread awareness and participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their efforts ensured that every participant understood their role and remained committed to the cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resounding success of South Tongu\u2019s sanitation exercise stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of its people and leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special commendation goes to the District Chief Executive Hon. Victoria Dzeklo and Member of Parliament Hon. Maxwell Lukutor, whose presence and encouragement galvanized community spirit. Their leadership, even in the face of persistent rain, inspired many to rise to the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Equally deserving of praise are Hon. Paul Fiador, affectionately known as Kingtapor, and Hon. Issa Mussa, fondly called Zongo Rambo, whose tireless efforts and grassroots mobilization were instrumental in driving participation and morale. Their hands-on involvement and deep connection with the people exemplify servant leadership at its finest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To the dedicated staff of the South Tongu District Assembly who braved the elements from start to finish with enthusiasm, patriotism, and love for their district your resilience and teamwork did not go unnoticed. You are the backbone of this achievement, and your example sets a high standard for civic responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Tongu has once again proven that with unity and determination, even the rain cannot wash away the spirit of communal responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
