As part of the nationwide celebration of Green Ghana day South Tongu District Assembly has undertaken a significant tree planting exercise.<\/p>\n

The Green Ghana day has been instituted by the government as part of measures to mitigate the negative effects of climate change and restore degraded landscapes across the country.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Green Ghana Day was observed on Friday 7th<\/sup> June 2024. And the theme was \u201cGrowing for A Green Tomorrow\u201d.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The 2024 Prior to the day, a lot of activities were undertaken to ensure a successful program. Resources both financially and physically were sourced to establish nurseries that will provide tree seedlings for the event. The types of trees were Timber, Ornamental, Shade, Amenity and Watershed.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sensitization programs such as radio shows and community engagements were undertaken. Community PA systems were also used to publicize the event.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In all, a total of six thousand and three hundred and twenty-six (16,326) tree seedlings were planted in the South Tongu District. The seedlings supplied were Cassia, Acacia, Mahogany, White Clintonia, Teak, Polyantha, Veitchia Palm, Guava, Coconut and Oil Palm.<\/p>\n

The South Tongu District Assembly alone distributed two thousand four hundred and fifty (2,450) seedlings whereas the remaining seedlings were planted on farms, schools, homes, individual lands and watershed area around Galosota.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The commemorative planting was held at Adutor (CHIPS Compound). The event was attended by the District Chief Executive Mr. Lynford Kwesi Tetteh, the District Coordinating Director, the Chief and people of Adutor, Assembly members, Unit Committee members, Heads of Departments, Doctors, the BNI, the Ghana Police Service and various community members.<\/p>\n

The program started at exactly 9:40am and ended at around 11:15am. The event was well organized by the team from the District Assembly.<\/p>\n
